Hi Isabelle, I'm researching the Heppler/Albrecht families from zell sd. How are you related? I see Charles and Theresa were your grandparents by the photo. My children descend through Wenzel also. to Mary Josephine Heppler Albrecht. Would love to exchange photos and information. There is a large # of Heppler 'cousins' that recently 'met' online and photos and info is available. please contact me. Janet Fisher
The Hepplers owned much of the land around Zell and donated land, and labor to build the Church, and Convent/school. The High Alter was hand carved by Wenzel. The first Mass that was said in that region was in the home of Leo and Anna Heppler by Bishop Martin Marty. Anna turned one of the big chests into an altar and the Mass was said. Others in that area were Catherine Heppler wife of Johann Ecker, and Eleanore Heppler married to Euctach Weiss. Leo first settler in that area had the privilege to name the town Maria Zell, later shortened to Zell. There is a wealth of family stories, names and some photos available.
